Next, in Abydos, you visit the Temple of Osiris, one of the holiest sites in Egypt. In Dendera, the Temple of Hathor and its unique zodiac await you. Day 1 – Luxor West Bank: Medinet Habu, the Tombs of the Nobles and the Valley of the Queens

At about 9:00, we pick you up directly from your hotel reception in Hurghada, El Gouna, Makadi Bay or Sahl Hasheesh. You then travel through the desert to Luxor in a private air-conditioned vehicle. The route of about 230 km first follows the coast and then leads into the fertile Nile Valley.

The first stop is Medinet Habu, the mortuary temple of Ramesses III. It is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt and shows the grandeur of the age of the pharaohs perfectly. Your Egyptologist also helps you discover its exceptional reliefs and inscriptions.

Next, we visit the Tombs of the Nobles. These are two tombs of Egyptian dignitaries whose thousand-year-old colours still shine. As a result, you see a site off the beaten track.

After that, we explore the Valley of the Queens. There you see the colourful burial chambers of New Kingdom queens and princes, with paintings of breathtaking beauty.

Lunch with Egyptian specialities follows in western Thebes.

After lunch, we cross the Nile by motorboat to admire Luxor from the water, along with views of the glowing mountains of western Thebes.

You then check in at your hotel in eastern Luxor. In the evening, a horse-drawn carriage ride takes you to the illuminated Luxor Temple for an unforgettable view.

Day 2 – Karnak and Abydos: the World’s Largest Temple Complex and the Temple of Osiris

Breakfast at the hotel is included.

Karnak Temple: for three hours, you explore this vast complex, the largest in the world. Admire the impressive hypostyle halls, obelisks and avenues of sphinxes, witnesses to more than 2,000 years of Egyptian history. Your Egyptologist also reveals the secrets carved into the walls.

Lunch in eastern Luxor is included.

The Temple of Osiris at Abydos (Seti I): next, you set off for Abydos, one of the holiest places in Egypt. The Temple of Seti I is regarded as the cradle of the first principles of Egyptian art and architecture. Its paintings are also among the best preserved in the country. Abydos was the religious centre of Egypt, attracting pilgrims who worshipped the god Osiris.

Overnight at a hotel in Abydos (Sohag).

Day 3 – Dendera: the Temple of Hathor and the Dendera Zodiac

Breakfast at the hotel is included.

The Temple of Hathor at Dendera: this site is dedicated to the goddess of beauty and magic and is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. In ancient times, Dendera was also an important centre of astronomical study.

The Dendera Zodiac: on the upper floor of the temple is this famous depiction of the constellations. What is more, it is better preserved than the original in the Louvre. According to the beliefs of the time, it connected heaven and earth.

The Dendera Zodiac is the oldest known depiction of the zodiac, a remarkable astronomical work from the Ptolemaic era up to the time of Cleopatra.

Finally, the return to Hurghada. This is how the 3 day Luxor, Abydos and Dendera tour ends: three unforgettable days in the footsteps of the pharaohs.

The 3 day Luxor, Abydos and Dendera tour: discover Medinet Habu, Karnak, the Temple of Osiris and the Dendera Zodiac. It is a private journey with an English-speaking Egyptologist guide, 2 overnight stays and meals, departing from Hurghada.
