Pick-Up and Crossing to the West Bank
First, your English-speaking Egyptologist guide picks you up early in the morning, at around 7:00 am, from your hotel or Nile cruise ship in Luxor. Then you head to the West Bank, the ancient necropolis of Thebes. You travel by private air-conditioned vehicle or, optionally, by felucca across the Nile.
Medinet Habu
Next, you visit Medinet Habu, the mortuary temple of Ramesses III. It is the best-preserved mortuary temple in Egypt. Pay special attention to its pylons, colourful reliefs and battle scenes, for example against the Sea Peoples.
The Valley of the Queens
Then you drive to the Valley of the Queens, where more than 90 tombs have been discovered, including the tomb of Queen Nefertari. Its paintings are among the most beautiful and best preserved in ancient Egypt. Please note, however, that entry to the Tomb of Nefertari is paid separately on site.
The Colossi of Memnon
After that, you see the Colossi of Memnon, two huge statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. They have guarded the entrance to the Theban necropolis for more than 3,400 years, making this a great spot for photos with the Nile in the background.
A lunch break at a local restaurant in Luxor is also included.
Luxor Temple
In the afternoon, you return to the East Bank to visit Luxor Temple. Amenhotep III began its construction and Ramesses II completed it. The annual Opet Festival took place here, when statues of the gods were carried from Karnak to Luxor. Today, the two temples are linked by the recently uncovered Avenue of Sphinxes.
