Browse more Egypt tour packages and Nile cruises.
The White Desert (Sahara el-Beida), north of Qasr al-Farafra, is one of Egypt’s most impressive natural wonders. Chalk-white limestone formations shaped like mushrooms, tables and arches rise from the desert floor. In the midday sun they shine a dazzling white, while at sunset they take on a deep golden colour. At night they glow under the starry sky, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
An experienced English-speaking Egyptologist guide welcomes you at Cairo International Airport with a sign bearing your name. You are then driven to your hotel in a luxury air-conditioned vehicle, with welcome drinks on board. After check-in, your guide goes through the route and pick-up times with you. You then have a free evening before your overnight stay.
The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square: opened in 1902, this museum displays more than 150,000 artefacts of ancient Egypt across two floors, including the famous golden treasures of Tutankhamun. It is therefore one of the most important museums in the world.
Lunch at a local restaurant is included.
Islamic Cairo: the Khan el-Khalili souk and Al-Muizz Street. In the bustling heart of the old city, you get to know the real Cairo: Arab culture, medieval architecture, spice stalls and the lively everyday life of Egyptians. Al-Muizz Street is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Giza Pyramids, on the edge of Cairo, are the three great monuments of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. They are the last surviving wonder of the ancient world and probably the most famous buildings of humankind. Your Egyptologist also tells you about the methods used to build them.
Next, lunch is planned at a restaurant.
At Saqqara, the Step Pyramid of Djoser, from around 2650 BC, marks the beginning of stone pyramid building. This monument stands at the centre of a huge 16-hectare funerary complex with temples, chapels and tombs. The whole site is surrounded by a limestone wall more than 10 metres high.
Departure at about 6:00 am in a private 4×4 vehicle. Bahariya Oasis, about 370 km south-west of Cairo, is one of the most important oases of the Libyan Desert. It is home to the Valley of the Golden Mummies and the Temple of Alexander the Great. In addition, Crystal Mountain sparkles in the sun like a natural diamond.
You then spend the night at a camp in the White Desert, with full board. Sleeping under a starry sky is an unforgettable experience.
The White Desert (Sahara el-Beida) stretches for 20 kilometres and forms an impressive collection of limestone formations with surreal shapes. Imagine mushrooms, arches and tables in dazzling white, sculpted over thousands of years by wind and changing temperatures. As a result, it is probably one of the most photographed places in Egypt.
Back in Cairo, your guide presents the programme for the following day. Then overnight at your hotel.
A transfer to Cairo Airport for the domestic flight to Luxor. On arrival, an English-speaking Egyptologist guide welcomes you.
The Karnak temple complex covers 247 hectares and was built over more than 2,000 years. It includes pylons, obelisks, chapels and sanctuaries of the Theban gods. Above all, its hypostyle hall with 134 columns is among the most remarkable architectural achievements of antiquity.
Luxor Temple, on the East Bank of the Nile, was the site of royal coronations and religious festivals. Moreover, the recently uncovered Avenue of Sphinxes now links the two sites.
You then board your 5* Nile cruise ship, where lunch is served on board.
The Valley of the Kings (western Thebes): here lie more than 63 burial chambers of New Kingdom pharaohs (16th–11th century BC), decorated with hieroglyphs and paintings that reveal thousand-year-old secrets. It was also here that the legendary tomb of Tutankhamun was discovered in 1922.
The Temple of Hatshepsut (Deir el-Bahari): this multi-terraced temple, dedicated to Egypt’s only female pharaoh, blends harmoniously into the limestone cliffs of the Theban hills.
The Colossi of Memnon: two seated statues, 18 metres high, depict Amenhotep III. They make an ideal photo stop.
Lunch on board. Dinner and overnight on the ship.
The Temple of Edfu, dedicated to the falcon god Horus, is the best-preserved temple in Egypt. Construction began in 237 BC under Ptolemy III. It has also survived intact, including its pylons, courtyard and sanctuary.
Located 40 km north of Aswan, the Temple of Kom Ombo is a unique double temple from the Ptolemaic and Roman period, dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus. It also houses the fascinating Crocodile Museum.
Lunch is served on board. In the afternoon, tea is served on deck. Dinner and overnight are on the ship as well.
The Aswan High Dam was built between 1960 and 1968 and then opened in 1971. It holds back the waters of the vast Lake Nasser and generates electricity for the whole of Egypt.
Philae Temple, on the other hand, was saved stone by stone in a UNESCO campaign between 1972 and 1980. This temple of Isis now stands on Agilkia Island.
The Unfinished Obelisk, a granite block almost 42 metres long and weighing 1,168 tonnes, still lies in the bedrock. It is a fascinating testimony to the ancient art of stoneworking.
An early-morning departure at about 3:00 for Abu Simbel, a drive of about 3 hours. The monumental rock temples of Ramesses II and Nefertari on Lake Nasser are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and among the most remarkable places in the world. Twice a year, on 22 February and 22 October, sunlight reaches the heart of the sanctuary, an astronomical achievement 3,300 years old.
Then a transfer to Aswan Airport and a domestic flight to Cairo. There, your guide welcomes you, followed by an overnight stay at your hotel.
Saladin Citadel and the Alabaster Mosque: Saladin built this fortress on the Mokattam Hills in the 12th century. It combines military, residential and religious architecture in a remarkable way.
Coptic Cairo and the Hanging Church: this is also the oldest Christian quarter of Cairo.
Finally, a transfer to Cairo Airport. This is how your unforgettable 11 day Egypt tour comes to an end.
