What Snorkelling with Turtles at Abu Dabbab Is Like
Transfer from Hurghada to Abu Dabbab
First, you set off in the morning by air-conditioned minibus towards Marsa Alam. The drive from Hurghada takes about three to four hours, so wear comfortable clothes and bring something to make the journey more enjoyable.
Snorkelling with Turtles at Abu Dabbab
When you arrive at Abu Dabbab Bay, there is time for free snorkelling. While swimming, you can look out for sea turtles and sometimes even a dugong. The animals live in the wild here, so encounters cannot be guaranteed. You also have time to relax on the beach, and lunch is served on site.
Lunch and Return to Hurghada
After the morning’s snorkelling, you enjoy lunch to recharge for the rest of the day. Then you can relax by the sea. In the late afternoon, you head back to Hurghada.
Practical Information
The trip takes a full day because of the distance to Marsa Alam. Basic swimming skills let you make the most of the programme. Remember to bring swimwear and sunscreen. As the drive is long, make sure you are comfortable for the journey.
How to Watch Turtles and Dugongs
While snorkelling, keep a calm distance from the animals. Above all, do not touch the turtles or dugongs and do not chase them. This way, you can observe their natural behaviour without disturbing them.
Underwater Photography
If you have a waterproof camera, you can photograph the turtles from a suitable distance. However, do not approach the animals just to get a better shot. After all, their peace comes first.
